How We Clean and Care for Our Yixing Teapots Daily at Cha Zhi Ji
At Cha Zhi Ji, caring for our Yixing teapots is not just a routine—it’s a ritual. Below, we share the simple yet essential practices we follow every day to preserve the purity and character of our teapots.
1. Rinse with Clean Water
Our teapots are made from high-grade Yixing clay with no strange odors. Simply rinse the teapot under clean running water using a scrub pad to gently remove dust and clay residue. No boiling or sugarcane soaking needed.
2. Avoid Oils and Fragrance
Never use detergent. Avoid handling with oily or sweaty hands. If oil gets on the teapot, it loses its natural matte glow and becomes shiny — known as “monk’s shine.”
3. Handle with Care
Always handle your teapot gently. Even minor chips can affect the beauty and long-term value of a teapot.
4. Don’t Leave Tea Overnight
Always empty and rinse your teapot after each session. Leaving tea leaves overnight can cause staining or spoilage.
5. Don’t Seal a Damp Teapot
Never seal a damp teapot in a box or bag. Let it air-dry completely before storage to prevent mold.
6. Let the Teapot Rest
It’s best to rotate between a few teapots so each one can fully dry and breathe between uses.
At Cha Zhi Ji, we believe in respecting tradition while making tea care practical and enjoyable.
