Bei Dou Yi Hao comes from first-generation cuttings from the revered Da Hong Pao ("Big Red Robe") mother trees cultivated in Bei Dou, and is one of the Si Da Ming Cong, or "Four Big Famous Bushes". These trees are tall, with dense branches and rich, glossy green leaves. The leaves from these trees are harvested from early- to mid-April each year.
The ideal time for picking spring tea is from mid to late April. The dry tea has excellent quality, with a green-brown color and red accents. The infusion has a clear, amber color with a strong and fresh aroma. The fragrance combines floral and dried fruit sweetness. The flavor is robust, with a sweet aftertaste, and the lasting rock essence is pronounced. Bei Dou Yi Hao can be considered a typical representative of the Da Hong Pao variety.
