Ma Bao Liu Bao – A 1990s Classic from the Cha Zhi Ji Malaysian Vault
Ma Bao is one of the most iconic Liu Bao teas from Cha Zhi Ji, produced in the 1990s and aged for decades in Malaysia. The name “Ma Bao” (孖宝) means “twins” in Cantonese, symbolizing good fortune and harmony. This tea is part of our Areca Nut Aroma Series, naturally transformed through time into a unique, mellow profile.
Sourced from Wuzhou, Guangxi, Ma Bao is a dark tea (hei cha) made with mature leaves (1 bud and 2–3 leaves) using traditional processing techniques—including steaming, pressing, and natural post-fermentation aging in a cool, well-ventilated environment.
Decades of careful Malaysian storage give this tea a deep reddish liquor, smooth and thick texture, and a distinctive areca nut fragrance with hints of pinewood and aged notes. It offers strong infusibility and balanced strength, with lingering flavors across the throat and palate. It can be enjoyed after meals to aid digestion or sipped slowly on humid days for cooling relief.
Ma Bao is a rare collector’s tea – mellow, rich, and full of old-world Liu Bao charm.
