Song Zhong – Phoenix Dancong Oolong from Chaozhou
This rare Song Zhong (宋种) is a Cha Zhi Ji selection from old tea trees on Phoenix Mountain, Chaozhou, Guangdong. A descendant of the original mother tree, it is made from single bush tea trees over 100 years old, growing naturally at elevations above 1000 meters.
Carefully harvested only under ideal weather, the fresh leaves undergo a meticulous traditional process of withering, oxidation, rolling, and charcoal roasting—spanning over several dozen hours to create a tea of remarkable depth.
Key Features:
- Single bush Phoenix Dancong cultivar from 1100–1400m elevation
- Over 100-year-old heritage tea trees, descended from Song Dynasty stock
- Full-bodied, floral and honey-sweet fragrance (“Mi Yun”蜜韵)
- Golden liquor, rich aroma, long-lasting Hui Gan
- Thick, smooth, and incredibly re-steepable
Song Zhong is renowned for its “one bush, one fragrance” quality and complex mouthfeel. A tribute to Chaozhou’s oolong tradition and the essence of ancient tea trees.

What a beautiful example of a well crafted song zhong dancong. I was surprised how many steeps I could get out of this tea as the aroma just wouldn't fade. Flowers, fruits and honey dominate in the cup and gaiwan when drinking this one. The liquor is thick and mineral rich. Unbeatable at this price point.
