Product Description

The Da Long Dan, or “Great Dragon Egg,” is a cherished Yixing teapot whose form evokes an ancient Chinese legend. The pot’s smooth, egg‑shaped body, short straight spout and rounded handle make it both adorable and practical. Its name comes from the mythical dragon egg mentioned in the Book of Songs: the dragon’s ninth son Pi xiu breaks free from a dragon egg, and in folklore Pi xiu wards off evil and attracts wealth. Naming the pot after a dragon egg expresses good wishes and endows the design with a charming, childlike quality.

Our Da Long Dan teapot holds 290 ml and is handcrafted from Cha Zhi Ji’s bronze‑grade purple clay, an accessible entry in our five‑grade system. Bronze‑grade clay produces a dependable aroma, texture and mouthfeel at a friendly price—ideal for daily use. Each pot is shaped by hand, fired to a warm brown hue and equipped with a built‑in multi‑hole filter for a clean, even pour.

Like all Yixing zisha teapots, the clay’s porous structure absorbs tea oils and minerals during brewing. Over time a patina develops, enhancing the flavour of future infusions and creating a unique “seasoned” teapot. Zisha also retains heat well, keeping pu‑erh, black and oolong teas warm through multiple steepings. The generous 290 ml capacity makes this teapot perfect for sharing tea with friends or family while enjoying the joyous symbolism of the dragon egg.
